Africa Day 1

Today is Thursday, I think, woke early after a later night packing once I finally arrived at Mom's in CT. As I write this I'm 36K feet over the globe on my way to East Africa by way of Dubai. Of course, unlike Hemingway or Stanley, my trip includes a reclining seat with inflight entertainment, compression travel socks, my ipod and so far, one decent bottle of Syrah... ok Hemingway probably had his fair bit of wine.

The three of us-- Mom, Hilary and I -- are on our way to the trip of a lifetime (so far)-- 2 weeks in Tanzania where we will hike Kilimanjaro, go on safari and spend a few days sunning ourselves in Zanzibar as we try to haggle our way to cheap souvenirs we will no doubt discover were manufactured in Taiwan.

This is the longest flight I've ever taken and I'm trying desperately to mentally prepare myself for the most adventurous vacation I've ever been on. So here I am, 4 hours to go to Dubai, 3 movies and a half episode of One Treel Hill deep and beginning what I hope will either be a deep and insightful account of the most amazing trip of the first 27 years of my life or- at the very least- something to amuse myself with in 20 or 30 years when I no doubt unearth this journal while rummaging through a pile of items to drop off to the Salvation Army. I have to admit- I won't be dissapointed either way!

Veni Vedi Vici!

We did it!!!! We conquered THE SNAKE! WOOOOO HOOOO

I managed to keep a daily journal of our Africa trip and I will endeavor to upload my journal.
